Introduction of the Provincial Resident Safety Inspection Request System
Joint Inspection Team Offers Free Inspections and Recommendations
Targeting Small-Scale, Daily-Use Facilities
Jeonnam Province announced that it is operating the "Provincial Resident Safety Inspection Request System," which provides free safety inspections to identify unsafe risk factors in daily life and protect residents' lives and property from various disasters.
The Provincial Resident Safety Inspection Request System is a resident-participation safety management system that allows any resident to request a safety inspection of facilities or structures if they discover potential risks in their surroundings.
Once a safety inspection request is received, a joint inspection team consisting of public officials and private experts coordinates the schedule with the applicant, visits the site directly, and conducts a free safety inspection. The team then provides the facility owner (or management entity) with suggestions regarding the level of risk and possible repair or reinforcement methods.
Eligible facilities for inspection include small-scale, daily-use facilities expected to pose risks, such as private homes, village halls, other private and public buildings, as well as civil engineering structures like bridges, retaining walls, and embankments. However, buildings under construction, facilities involved in lawsuits (or disputes), facilities subject to legally mandated inspections, and facilities already subject to civil complaints are excluded from eligibility.
The main unsafe factors reported include cracks, spalling or peeling, and corrosion or exposure of reinforcing bars. In particular, many requests were made by residents who felt uneasy living in buildings with cracks or corroded reinforcing bars.
Applications can be submitted to the Safety Inspection Team of the Social Disaster Division of Jeonnam Province by phone, fax, or in person, or online through the Jeonnam Province website.
Lee Wonhyeong, Director of the Social Disaster Division of Jeonnam Province, stated, "The realization of a safe Jeonnam, created together with residents, is only possible when residents voluntarily pay attention to surrounding risk factors and actively cooperate by requesting safety inspections." He requested, "We ask for your active participation in the Provincial Resident Safety Inspection Request System."
Last month, Jeonnam Province conducted safety inspections in five areas-architecture, electricity, gas, fire safety, and transportation-at a total of 170 locations, including the Namdo International Gourmet Industry Expo, which was expected to attract large crowds, as well as traditional markets, bus terminals, nursing hospitals, and movie theaters, all of which are multi-use facilities. These efforts aim to prevent accidents in advance and ensure a safe and comfortable Chuseok holiday.
