On the first day of the holiday, October 3, the city held a welcoming event for returning visitors at Andong Station and the bus terminal area, launching a promotional campaign under the slogan "Andong, a City Overflowing with Warmth During the Holidays."
More than 20 officials, including Kwon Ki-chang, mayor of Andong City, the vice mayor, department heads, and the Andong Station chief, participated in the event, greeting visitors and conducting the "Smile Kindness Campaign."
At Andong Station, in particular, fragrant songpyeon rice cakes and souvenirs were distributed, with greetings encouraging visitors to "feel the warmth of your hometown," touching the hearts of citizens. On the same day, Mayor Kwon personally welcomed Colin Crooks, the British Ambassador to Korea, at Andong Station, continuing a special connection.
Ambassador Crooks served as First Secretary at the British Embassy in Korea in 1999 and was responsible for overseeing the schedule when the late Queen Elizabeth II visited Hahoe Village. During the "23rd Andong Day Commemoration Ceremony" held that afternoon, Andong City awarded Ambassador Crooks an honorary citizenship certificate.
Mayor Kwon Ki-chang stated, "I hope those returning to their hometown for the holiday can feel the warmth and charm of Andong," adding, "We will continue to do our best to promote Andong as a kind and dignified tourist city."
Through this welcoming event, Andong City further strengthened its image as "a warm and caring city." As the long holiday unfolds, the festive atmosphere shared by citizens and tourists is spreading throughout Andong, once again highlighting the city’s unique blend of tradition and modernity.
