Jindo County Wins the Grand Prize
Jindo County won the grand prize at the Namdo International Gourmet Industry Expo's 'City and County Representative Cuisine Exhibition Competition' event. Provided by Jeonnam Province
The Namdo International Gourmet Industry Expo Secretariat announced that the 'City and County Representative Cuisine Exhibition Competition,' held during the expo, successfully concluded, offering domestic and international visitors a concentrated showcase of Namdo's flavors and charm. The grand prize was awarded to Jindo County.
The exhibition competition, which took place at the Gourmet Culture Hall of the expo venue until October 3, featured participation from 22 cities and counties in Jeonnam Province. Each region presented dishes utilizing seasonal ingredients and traditional cooking methods representative of their area. The vibrant and abundant harmony of gourmet cuisine and artistic displays received an enthusiastic response from visitors both domestic and international, providing a concentrated experience of Namdo’s unique flavors and appeal.
The judging was conducted by a panel of experts. Evaluation criteria included: ▲ regionality and representativeness ▲ utilization of ingredients ▲ taste and harmony ▲ creativity and distinctiveness ▲ appearance and completeness.
According to the overall evaluation, Jindo County, which presented 'Haesanmul Jang-gwa' (Seafood Soy Sauce Marinated Dish), won the grand prize, while the top excellence award went to Haenam County for its 'Chubok-tang' (Traditional Steamed Dish). Goheung County received the excellence award, and Yeosu City and Gwangyang City were awarded the encouragement prize. Additionally, Suncheon City and Wando County were selected as finalists, further demonstrating the diverse flavors and characteristics of Namdo. The dishes awarded the grand prize and top excellence award will be intensively promoted as representative gourmet brands of Namdo during the expo period.
Hong Yanghyun, Secretary-General of the Namdo International Gourmet Industry Expo, stated, "The City and County Representative Cuisine Exhibition Competition is an event that comprehensively showcases the flavors and stories of Namdo, and every participating city and county was a protagonist. Through this exhibition competition, we once again confirmed the potential for Namdo’s gourmet cuisine to expand beyond Korea to the world."
