Jeong Cheongrae Pays Respects at Funeral of Civil Servant Who Oversaw Data Network Restoration: "Devastated"

On October 4, Jeong Cheongrae, leader of the Democratic Party of Korea, paid his respects at the funeral home of civil servant A, who died by suicide while overseeing the restoration work of the national data network following the fire at the National Information Resources Service (NIRS).


Visiting the funeral home in Sejong City that day, Jeong said, "He was an exemplary civil servant who worked with responsibility and diligence for the country, and I am overwhelmed with grief that such a tragic event has occurred." Meeting with the bereaved family, he added, "Seeing his wife, son, and daughter here, I feel heavy-hearted and do not know how best to offer my condolences. I sincerely pray for the deceased and mourn his passing. In line with his wishes, we will also do our utmost to fulfill our responsibilities."


According to the Ministry of the Interior and Safety and the police, Section Chief A, affiliated with the Digital Government Innovation Bureau of the Ministry of the Interior and Safety, was found in a state of cardiac arrest at around 10:50 a.m. the previous day on the ground near the central building of the Government Complex Sejong. He was immediately transported to the hospital but was ultimately pronounced dead. His mobile phone was found at the smoking area on the south terrace of the 15th floor of the government building, and it was reported that no suicide note was left.
