Promoting and Marketing Local Agricultural Specialties
for Urban-Rural Coexistence
Gokseong County in South Jeolla Province (Governor Cho Sangrae) announced on October 4 that it operated a direct sales market for the Chuseok holiday over two days, October 2 and 3, at the entrance of Euncheon-ro Samgeori in Gwanak-gu, Seoul, to promote local agricultural specialties.
More than 60 people participated in the event, including members of the Gwanak-gu Gokseong Residents’ Association, local farmers, the National Agricultural Cooperative Federation, and public officials. They promoted Gokseong’s high-quality agricultural specialties to Seoul citizens.
At the venue, over 60 products from eight companies were showcased, including Gokseong’s premium melons registered under the geographical indication system, taro, black glutinous corn, dried persimmons, fermented soybean paste, perilla oil, and health juice.
A county official stated, “We will revitalize the direct sales market to provide consumers with fresh and safe agricultural products at prices lower than the market rate, creating an environment where both consumers and producers can thrive together. We will also continue to promote various online and offline events to expand sales channels for Gokseong’s agricultural specialties, supporting local farmers who are struggling due to reduced consumption.”
Meanwhile, at last year’s direct sales market held at the same location, nine companies participated and achieved sales of 27 million won.
