Addressing Local Issues and Enhancing Community Welfare
Silla University (President Heo Namsik) has successfully completed a social contribution program aimed at addressing local issues and improving community welfare.
In September 2025, the Department of Food and Nutrition Bakery and the Department of Physical Education at Silla University spent meaningful time sharing and interacting with local children and residents as part of the RISE project.
The first program involved students from the Department of Food and Nutrition Bakery organizing events such as a confectionery and bakery snack sharing event and talent donation activities for nutrition education. They personally delivered freshly baked bread and snacks to around 100 children from underprivileged backgrounds at 19 institutions, sharing warmth and kindness.

Lee Sanghyun, head of the Department of Food and Nutrition Bakery at Silla University, said, "I believe this project, which shares the university's facilities and human resources with the local community, is a great example of the social responsibility of educational institutions. In particular, I feel a great sense of fulfillment from being able to share bread made by our own hands with local children."
The second program, organized by the Department of Physical Education, included a floorball experience, community sports guidance, and physical fitness improvement activities, with more than 50 local residents participating.

Through these programs, students from the Department of Physical Education and local residents worked up a sweat together, regaining health and vitality and creating a space for meaningful interaction and communication.
Kim Inhyeong, head of the Department of Physical Education, said, "I felt proud seeing residents learn practical health management methods they can use in daily life while participating with enthusiasm. Going forward, the Department of Physical Education will continue to promote the formation of a healthy community through open sports education programs in collaboration with local residents."
Hwang Inju, head of the RISE project group at Silla University, stated, "These two programs represent proactive efforts by the university to respond to the needs of the local community and address pressing issues together. It is especially meaningful that, with the support of the project group, students were able to share their expertise with the community and create changes that residents and youth could truly experience. Silla University will continue to closely link education and social contribution, producing tangible outcomes such as improving the welfare of underprivileged children, promoting resident health, and strengthening the foundation for local settlement. As an open university that grows together with the community, we will fulfill our social responsibility and expand our model for sustainable regional development."
