"Looks 50 at 70"... The Secret to Youth from a Doctor Who Has Followed One Regimen for 30 Years

Developed and Popularized the One Meal a Day Regimen
"Fasting Helps Suppress Cellular Aging"

Japanese surgeon Yoshinori Nagumo (age 70) has revealed the secret to his youthful appearance. He is well known as a proponent of the so-called "one meal a day" health regimen.

Recently, appearing on the Tokyo FM radio program "Biz Star: The Real Wellness," Dr. Nagumo introduced his new book, "It's This Simple! How to Prevent Cancer and Aging," stating, "My goal is to reduce cancer mortality rates by half through improved diet and lifestyle habits."

He emphasized, "In Europe and the United States, cancer mortality rates have been declining since the 1990s, thanks to preventive medicine based on scientific evidence," adding, "Only when both doctors and patients share accurate information can cancer truly be prevented."

Dr. Nagumo gained fame in Japan in 2012 with his book "One Meal a Day." The book has sold more than 500,000 copies in Japan and around 100,000 copies in Korea. He developed the one meal a day method after facing a health crisis in his late 30s. He eats only one meal each evening, consistently following a menu of rice, soup, and vegetables, known as the 'one soup, one side dish' style.

Having adhered to the one meal a day regimen for decades, Dr. Nagumo cited fasting as "the secret to youth." He explained, "When fasting continues, growth hormone is secreted, fat burning becomes active, and the sirtuin gene, which suppresses cellular aging, is activated." He further noted, "A single modern meal is equivalent to three meals by the standards of 100 years ago, which shows how overeating has become the norm."

However, his one meal a day regimen is intended only for healthy adults. Dr. Nagumo emphasized, "I do not recommend one meal a day for growing children, pregnant women, patients, or premenopausal women," adding, "It is a suitable method for men over 30 and postmenopausal women."
