Gijang County and Korail Launch 'GO Gijang' Promotion... 10,000 Won Transportation Subsidy for Train Travelers

Revitalizing the Local Economy Through Traditional Market Partnerships
Expanding the Base for Railway Tourism

Gijang County in Busan (County Governor Jung Jongbok), in cooperation with the Busan-Gyeongnam Headquarters of Korail (Director Son Myungcheol), is launching the 'GO Gijang' promotion to provide transportation subsidies for train passengers visiting Gijang, Busan.

This event is designed to both offer convenience to tourists by linking train travel with visits to traditional markets and to revitalize the local economy.

Tourists who arrive at Gijang Station in Busan via a Korail train, make a purchase of at least 5,000 won at Gijang Market, and present both their train ticket and receipt at the Tourist Information Center will receive a transportation card (Rail Plus) preloaded with 10,000 won. The Rail Plus card can be used not only for subways, trains, buses, and taxis, but also at convenience stores nationwide.

This promotion runs from October 1 on a first-come, first-served basis until all cards are distributed, and is operated at the Gijang Station Tourist Information Center. The center is open daily from 9:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., except on Mondays and public holidays.

County Governor Jung Jongbok stated, "With the Chuseok holiday, I hope many people visit Gijang, travel throughout the region including the market, and enjoy transportation benefits," adding, "We will actively promote the revitalization of tourism in Gijang County by providing customized tourism services and developing tourism products."

Since signing a mutual cooperation agreement in April to promote the use of Gijang Station and boost railway tourism, Gijang County and the Busan-Gyeongnam Headquarters of Korail have conducted field surveys for tourism product development in July and opened the Gijang Station Tourist Information Center in September.

In November, Gijang County plans to develop railway tourism products to attract group tourists.
