"Beware of Voice Phishing Impersonating Tax Office Civil Service Staff"… Daegu Regional Tax Office Issues Warning

The Daegu Regional Tax Office announced on October 2 that it is urging the public to exercise particular caution regarding attempted phone-based financial scams (voice phishing) in which scammers impersonate staff members of the tax office's civil service department.

According to a taxpayer who received a suspicious call, a person pretending to be an employee of the Pohang Tax Office's civil service department said, "Your representative has come to apply for a business registration, so I am calling to confirm whether you have authorized this," and then tried to induce the taxpayer to "click the link sent via text message."

The Daegu Regional Tax Office emphasized that its civil service department staff would never ask taxpayers to click on links sent via text message or request any specific actions over the phone. Therefore, in such cases, the office strongly advises verifying the caller's name and department and directly confirming the facts with the relevant tax office.

The Daegu Regional Tax Office also stated that since June 25, it has been applying a safety mark to general text messages sent to taxpayers, so they can be opened with confidence.
