The Gyeongbuk Office of Education (Superintendent Lim Jongshik) announced on October 2 that a total of 1,115 applicants had applied for the '2026 Public Kindergarten, Elementary School, and Special School (Kindergarten/Elementary) Teacher Recruitment Examination,' which is being held to select 369 candidates, resulting in an average competition rate of 3.02 to 1.
This competition rate is slightly higher than last year's figure of 2.56 to 1. By category: for kindergarten teachers, 354 applicants competed for 48 positions, recording the highest competition rate of 7.38 to 1; for elementary school teachers, 641 applicants competed for 294 positions, resulting in a rate of 2.18 to 1; for special school (kindergarten) teachers, 32 applicants applied for 6 positions, with a rate of 5.33 to 1; and for special school (elementary) teachers, 88 applicants competed for 21 positions, with a competition rate of 4.19 to 1.
In particular, for the newly introduced regional recruitment in the elementary field (Cheongsong County, Yeongyang County, Yeongdeok County, Uljin County), 42 applicants competed for 10 positions, resulting in a competition rate of 4.2 to 1, indicating higher interest compared to the general elementary field (2.18 to 1).
The proportion of male applicants was 37.3% of the total, an increase of 1.9% from last year. By recruitment category, the proportion of male applicants was 60.2% for elementary school, 26.1% for special school (elementary), and 18.8% for special school (kindergarten), while kindergarten recorded the lowest at 0.3%.
Meanwhile, the Gyeongbuk Office of Education plans to conduct the first round of the kindergarten, elementary, and special school teacher recruitment examination on November 8. The test locations will be announced on the Gyeongbuk Office of Education website on October 31.
