On October 1, the labor and management of Gwangju Transportation Corporation conducted a "National Subsidy Promotion Campaign for Urban Rail Free Ride Losses" at Sangmu Station in Seo-gu, targeting citizens and urging government-level support to address the deficit caused by free rides.
According to the corporation on October 2, this campaign was organized simultaneously in Gwangju, Seoul, Busan, Daegu, Incheon, and Daejeon under the leadership of the Joint Council of Six Urban Rail Operators nationwide. Each organization selected one station with high foot traffic to carry out public awareness activities.
At Sangmu Station, which sees a large number of commuters, the corporation distributed promotional leaflets and souvenirs calling for government compensation for free ride losses, appealing for citizens' active interest and support. In addition, the corporation plans to continue promotional activities until the end of the year by broadcasting announcements and displaying videos inside trains to highlight the need for compensation for free ride deficits.
President Cho Ikmun stated, "I hope the amendment to the Urban Rail Act, currently under discussion in the National Assembly, will be passed as soon as possible so that national funding support can be provided quickly," adding, "We ask for continued interest from citizens so that we can continue to provide the best possible transportation services."
