CV1 Based on Hyundai Motor Company's ST1 Platform
A Model Tailored for Local Needs
A purpose-built vehicle (PBV) exclusively for demand-responsive transport (DRT), optimized for rural roads with enhanced mobility and eco-friendliness, has been introduced.
According to industry sources on October 2, Seosan City in Chungnam Province has become the first in the nation to introduce the DRT-exclusive eco-friendly electric van, the 'CV1 Shuttle.' In February, Seosan City launched the 'Happiness Bus' using Hyundai Motor Company's artificial intelligence (AI)-based DRT platform, Shucle. Due to the recent increase in users, the city has added four new CV1 Shuttles to its fleet, in addition to the existing eight County Electric vehicles.

The CV1 Shuttle is a DRT-specialized PBV vehicle developed and mass-produced by MTR, based on Hyundai Motor Company's electrification business platform, the ST1 Chassis Cab. With a capacity of 11 passengers, the vehicle features a low-floor body and an automatic sliding step, making it easy for the elderly and people with mobility challenges to board and disembark. The increased interior height also provides a comfortable riding environment.
The vehicle is equipped with an AI assistant function to support safe boarding and disembarking, and an infotainment system with a dedicated driver app, enhancing operational efficiency without the need for a separate DRT terminal.
During the development of the CV1 Shuttle, Hyundai Motor Company provided active and systematic support to MTR in various aspects, including design review, guidance on certification procedures, and technical consulting for issues that arose during development. MTR plans to develop various special-purpose vehicles as derivatives of the CV1, such as school buses for children, vehicles for people with disabilities, ambulances, and police vehicles.
Hyundai Motor Company also plans to use the experience gained from supporting the development of the CV1 to strengthen cooperation with small and medium-sized specialty vehicle manufacturers, enabling them to utilize the ST1 platform for a variety of vehicles, and to promote expanded sales of the ST1.
Meanwhile, since 2021, Hyundai Motor Company has been piloting and operating the Shucle platform to promote public transportation and improve mobility for transportation-vulnerable groups. As of July, 361 vehicles were operating across 68 service areas in 30 local governments nationwide, with cumulative ridership surpassing 11.32 million passengers.
