"100 Facts about Hangeul Culture" Shares Stories about Hangeul
Book Giveaway Event to Be Held on October 9 at the National Museum of Korea
The National Hangeul Museum, under the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, has published a general interest book titled "100 Facts about Hangeul Culture" to commemorate the 579th Hangeul Day. In addition, a book-sharing event will be held on October 9 in the front yard of the National Museum of Korea.
This event has been organized to enhance understanding of Hangeul, as global interest in Korean history, culture, and Hangeul itself continues to grow due to the Korean Wave.
"100 Facts about Hangeul Culture" contains information on linguistic knowledge about Hangeul, as well as figures, organizations, related incidents, and materials that have contributed to the cultivation of Hangeul culture. The National Hangeul Museum selected 100 core terms from the "Hangeul Cultural Knowledge Dictionary," a project conducted from 2019 to 2023 in collaboration with experts in Korean language, literature, bibliography, and other fields.
The content is designed to engage readers' curiosity. It introduces topics such as "What message did King Seonjo deliver to the people in Hangeul upon returning from refuge during the Imjin War?", "How did interpreters in the Joseon Dynasty learn foreign languages?", and "Did people in the Joseon Dynasty also learn Hangeul by reciting 'Ga Na Da Ra...'?"
Those who leave a comment on the National Hangeul Museum's social media account and correctly answer a Hangeul-related question at the event venue on October 9 will receive a copy of "100 Facts about Hangeul Culture" on a first-come, first-served basis, limited to 100 people. The event will be held twice, at 12:00 p.m. and 3:00 p.m.
Kang Jeongwon, Director of the National Hangeul Museum, stated, "I hope this book provides an opportunity for people to rediscover knowledge about Hangeul that they may not have been familiar with."
