Bicycle Path Maintenance, Logo Light Installation, and More
On September 30, Gwangju Seo-gu District held a Resident Participatory Budget Committee meeting at the Deulbul Hall of the Seo-gu Office, where it selected 34 projects for next year's resident participatory budget, totaling over 600 million won. The district announced on October 1 that it had received 64 proposals through a public call for participatory budgeting from March to July this year.

After reviewing feasibility, conducting subcommittee deliberations, holding an online vote, and convening a general meeting, the district finalized the following projects: maintenance of the Daenam-daero bicycle path to promote carbon neutrality; installation of logo lights to create smoke-free village parks; establishment of a flower village picnic zone at Hwajeong Neighborhood Park; provision of welcome kits for newly arrived young residents; environmental improvements to the Gwangju Stream-Yeongsangang River bicycle path entrances and exits; environmental improvements to Haengja Children's Park in Dongcheon-dong; and installation of mobile phone chargers at public places such as bus stops.
The selected projects will be included in next year's main budget after review by the Seo-gu District Council in December, and the results will be released on the Seo-gu Office website.
Kim Ikang, head of the district office, stated, "The resident participatory budget is a key channel for realizing fiscal democracy and is a meaningful process in which residents identify and decide on the needs of their community themselves. We will continue to strive to implement practical, resident-centered policies that meet the needs of the community."
Meanwhile, Seo-gu has been operating the resident participatory budgeting system since 2007 to expand resident participation in the budgeting process and enhance budget transparency.
