26 Civilian Members Appointed Across 7 Divisions
Cultural and Arts Policy Advisory Committee Formed Under the Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism
Representatives from major domestic entertainment agencies, including HYBE, SM Entertainment, YG Entertainment, and JYP Entertainment, will participate as civilian members of the Presidential Committee for Popular Culture Exchange.
The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism announced on October 1 that it has appointed 26 civilian members across seven divisions for the newly launched committee. The committee will be co-chaired by Minister Choi Hwi-young and Jinyoung Park, Chief Producer of JYP Entertainment.
The committee stated, "As it was established to develop international exchange strategies for the popular culture industry and strengthen public-private cooperation in response to the rapidly changing global environment, it is composed of key figures from each field." The committee can have up to 50 members, and currently, there are 39 members in total, including both government and civilian representatives.
In the popular music division, the CEOs of the four major agencies-Jang Cheolhyuk of SM Entertainment, Lee Jaesang of HYBE, Yang Minseok of YG Entertainment, and Jung Wook of JYP Entertainment-have all been appointed.
The game division includes Changhan Kim of Krafton, Kang Daehyun of Nexon Korea, Park Byungmoo of NCSoft, and Sung Junho of Smilegate Holdings. For the webtoon and animation division, the appointees are Kim Joongoo of Naver Webtoon, Park Jungseo of Kakao Entertainment’s Story Division, Kim Suhoon of SAMG Entertainment, and Jang Seongho of MOFAC Studio.
The film and video division includes Yoon Sanghyun of CJ ENM, Hong Jeongin of Contentree JoongAng, Lee Sangbaek of AStory, Kim Jongyeol of Lotte Cultureworks, and Kim Jiyeon of Firstman Studio.

The government members consist of vice ministers from ten relevant ministries, including the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, the Ministry of Economy and Finance, the Ministry of Science and ICT, and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, as well as the Senior Secretary for Social Affairs at the Presidential Office. The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism stated, "If necessary, the committee will be expanded in the future to broadly address the entire popular culture industry."
Additionally, the ministry will establish a Cultural and Arts Policy Advisory Committee directly under the minister. About 90 experts across nine fields-including theater and musicals, classical music, traditional Korean music and dance, literature, fine arts, popular music, film and video, games, webtoons and animation, publishing, and web novels-will be appointed, with operations set to begin in October.
Minister Choi stated, "The Committee for Popular Culture Exchange and the Cultural and Arts Policy Advisory Committee are the two pillars for achieving the 'K-Culture 300 trillion won goal' and realizing Korea as a cultural powerhouse," adding, "We will reflect voices from the field in our policies to ensure inclusive cultural and arts policies without marginalization."
