It has been confirmed that women in North Korea who underwent illegal breast augmentation surgery, as well as the doctor who performed the procedures, were brought to a public trial.

Recently, North Korea-focused media outlet Daily NK reported, citing a source in North Hwanghae Province, that "in the middle of this month, a public trial was held in Sariwon City for those who performed illegal breast augmentation surgery and the women who received the procedures."

According to reports, the public trial was held at the cultural center in the city center, where one individual who performed the surgeries and two women in their twenties who received the procedures were brought forward. During the trial, evidence such as medical instruments used in the illegal surgeries, imported silicone, and bundles of cash were displayed. It was reported that the two women stood with their heads bowed throughout the proceedings.

The individual who performed the surgeries had previously studied surgery at a medical school but dropped out. He was caught illegally performing breast augmentation surgeries at home using silicone imported from China. It is unknown whether he held a medical license.

After the city security department received orders to crack down on illegal cosmetic surgeries, they began investigating the situation and reportedly uncovered the operation by infiltrating the house that had been rumored to be involved.

According to the source, during the trial, the two women testified that "they underwent breast augmentation surgery because they wanted to improve their figures." The prosecutor criticized them, saying, "Women living under the socialist system have been corrupted by bourgeois customs and have engaged in decadent capitalist behavior."

The judge also stated, "Instead of being loyal to the organization and the collective, you have become obsessed with vanity and ultimately turned into a poisonous weed that undermines the socialist system." He defined breast augmentation surgery as an "anti-socialist act" and announced plans to identify women whose body shapes have visibly changed and confirm whether they had surgery through hospital examinations.
