Han Okcheon, Kim Youngtae, and Myung Kyungsik Confirmed as Recipients
Awards to Be Presented at the Yeosu Citizen's Day Ceremony on October 17
Yeosu City in South Jeolla Province (Mayor Jung Kimyung) announced on the 29th that it has selected a total of three recipients for this year's "Citizen's Award."
The honor of receiving the award goes to Han Okcheon, Chairperson of the Yeocheon-dong Community Security Council, in the Regional Development category; Kim Youngtae, CEO of Woojoo General Construction, in the Industrial Economy category; and Myung Kyungsik, President of the Yeosu City Sports Council, in the Sports Promotion category.
Chairperson Han Okcheon has dedicated herself to various social organizations since 1984. As an administrative counseling member of the National Grievance Settlement Committee, she led efforts to improve the treatment of village heads and neighborhood leaders. She also served as chairperson of the Yeosu City Resident Autonomy Committee, where she was recognized for her contributions to expanding community facilities, resolving inconveniences, and establishing new resident autonomy programs, all of which enhanced the convenience and welfare of citizens.
CEO Kim Youngtae has contributed to job creation and economic revitalization in the region through public and private construction projects since founding his company in 1989. His achievements in pioneering overseas markets have elevated the status of local companies, and his commitment to ESG management and social contribution activities has been highly regarded for improving community welfare.
President Myung Kyungsik established a sponsorship fund system to promote sports, creating a framework for discovering and nurturing sports talent. Through proactive support for sports organizations, he played a significant role in helping Yeosu achieve first place overall at the 62nd Jeollanam-do Sports Festival in 2023. He has also consistently engaged in initiatives to promote community sports and social contribution activities for marginalized groups.
Previously, from June 9 to August 8, the city accepted nominations in seven categories: regional development, industrial economy, education and science, arts and public relations, social welfare, sports promotion, and local defense. The final recipients were selected through a rigorous review and discussion by the judging committee.
The award ceremony will take place at the "Yeosu Citizen's Day" commemorative event on October 17, where the recipients will be presented with plaques. The event will be broadcast live through Yeosu City's official YouTube channel, "Yeosu Story."
A city official stated, "The Citizen's Award is the most prestigious honor representing Yeosu, and we will continue to do our utmost to select recipients who are recognized and supported by all citizens."
Meanwhile, the "Yeosu Citizen's Award" is presented to individuals who have contributed to community development, the preservation of local culture, and the improvement of citizen welfare, or who have brought honor to Yeosu both domestically and internationally through their outstanding talents.
