Gyeonggi Province Conducts Safety Inspections of Non-Government Road Construction Sites Ahead of Heavy Rain and Chuseok Holiday
Gyeonggi Province announced on September 29 that, in order to ensure the safety of residents and minimize inconvenience for those returning home for the Chuseok holiday, it has been conducting safety inspections of road construction sites not managed by the central government from September 23 to October 2.
The inspections cover a total of 28 construction sites, including the widening and paving of the Jungri~Cheonri section of National Route 84, the intersection construction at the Geumnam Logistics Center on National Route 86, and the construction of the access road to the Manjeong area in Anseong on Local Route 321. Of these, 22 sites are undergoing self-inspections, while joint inspections by Gyeonggi Province and project implementers are being conducted at six major sites.
The main inspection items include the maintenance of drainage systems, prevention of slope collapse and falling rocks, and the safety management of temporary structures as part of typhoon preparedness. In addition, measures to alleviate traffic congestion during the holiday period, such as temporary traffic management plans, as well as road surface maintenance and cleaning to address residents' inconvenience, are included.
After the inspections, the province will immediately address any issues requiring urgent repairs identified through self-inspections and joint inspections, and will establish follow-up management plans for tasks that require mid- to long-term improvement, ensuring ongoing management.
Kim Youngseop, Director of Road Policy at Gyeonggi Province, stated, "Through these inspections, we will ensure that both citizens and workers can feel safe during the Chuseok holiday," adding, "We will do our utmost to enhance the safety of road construction sites not managed by the central government and to provide residents with a safer and more pleasant road environment."
