Apple Develops Internal App Similar to ChatGPT... Begins Siri Overhaul

Testing Features with the "Veritas" Codenamed App
Siri Set for March Launch Next Year... A Measure of AI Competitiveness
Tim Cook: "AI Is the Biggest Change in Decades... We Must Win"

Apple has begun trial operations of an internal app similar to ChatGPT, ahead of a major overhaul of its AI assistant Siri, which is scheduled to be unveiled next year.

According to Bloomberg News on September 27 (local time), Apple has developed an iPhone app similar to ChatGPT to test the upcoming major update of its AI assistant Siri, which is planned for next year. The internal code name for this app is "Veritas," and it is being used exclusively within the company by the Apple AI division to evaluate new Siri features. Employees can use it to test functions such as searching personal data like songs or emails, editing photos, and performing on-device tasks.

Apple essentially created this app as a prototype for the new Siri technology, enabling employees to test it efficiently, and reportedly has no plans to release it to the public. However, Bloomberg described it as "a significant turning point in the process of preparing for the Siri overhaul."

The new Siri was originally scheduled for release at the end of last year but has been delayed several times and is now expected to be unveiled in March next year. Industry experts believe that, if successful, it will significantly contribute to restoring Apple's AI competitiveness. Ultimately, Apple aims to compete with services like ChatGPT and Perplexity by integrating similar capabilities within the Siri interface.

The new Siri is being designed to operate directly on information displayed on the screen, allowing users to navigate their devices more naturally.

Apple CEO Tim Cook recently stated in a meeting, "AI is the biggest change in decades" and emphasized, "This is a field we must win." He added, "We will seize this opportunity and spare no necessary investment."
