Gangneung City, which endured a difficult period due to record-breaking drought, is now taking steps to revitalize the local economy.
According to Gangneung City on September 26, a series of events will be held before and after the Chuseok holiday, including a welcoming event for tourists, a campaign at Gangneung Station, and a "Thank You Sale" for overcoming the drought. The city explained that these initiatives were prepared to help the local economy recover from the downturn caused by a decrease in tourists and to express gratitude for nationwide support.
The "Thank You Sale" will begin on October 1 and continue until the allocated budget is exhausted, offering discount coupons for accommodations, rental cars, and tourist attractions through online travel platforms.
On-site campaigns will also be conducted at major hubs in the Seoul metropolitan area and the Busan-Gyeongnam region. Starting in Seoul and Busan before Chuseok, the campaign will move to Dongdaegu Station and Daejeon Station on October 18, and then to Suwon Station and Incheon Bupyeong Station on October 25, taking place a total of three times across six locations. The campaign will feature promotions of Gangneung’s major tourist destinations, quiz events, and photo opportunities with characters from the Gwanno Mask Play.
Kim Hongkyu, Mayor of Gangneung, stated, "We are grateful for the support from across the country in overcoming the drought crisis. We hope to offer special benefits to tourists visiting Gangneung and to bring new vitality to the local economy."
