Ahn Cheolsoo: "Lee Administration Using Reconstruction for Political Retaliation... Are Bundang Residents Criminals?"

Ministry of Land Announces First-Generation New Town Policy on the 26th
Ahn: "Bundang Is Being Discriminated Against for Having an Opposition Lawmaker"

Ahn Cheolsoo: "Lee Administration Using Reconstruction for Political Retaliation... Are Bundang Residents Criminals?" Ahn Cheolsoo, member of the People Power Party. Ahn Cheolsoo Facebook

On September 26, Ahn Cheolsoo, a member of the People Power Party, voiced strong opposition regarding the redevelopment projects for the first-generation new towns (Bundang, Ilsan, Jungdong, Pyeongchon, Sanbon), stating, "The government's policy to potentially limit the annual designation volume for redevelopment zones in Bundang amounts to political retaliation through reconstruction."

On Facebook that day, Assemblyman Ahn said, "The Lee Jaemyung administration has imposed a cap of 12,000 households on Bundang's reconstruction and has also prohibited the carryover of unassigned quotas. Are Bundang residents criminals?" he said, expressing his criticism.

The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport announced that, based on relocation scenario plans within residential areas, only Bundang in Seongnam City among the five first-generation new towns would face restrictions on the annual redevelopment quota and carryover due to insufficient capacity to absorb relocation demand. The other four areas were deemed to have sufficient capacity to absorb relocation demand, so no additional management measures were considered necessary.

In response, Assemblyman Ahn stated, "Bundang, the largest and earliest developed among the first-generation new towns, has been allocated only half the quota of Ilsan and Bucheon (Jungdong). Even the quotas delayed this year cannot be carried over to next year, effectively depriving residents of their property rights. Is President Lee Jaemyung using reconstruction as a tool for political retaliation? Is it because Ilsan, Bucheon, Anyang, and Gunpo all have Democratic Party lawmakers that they receive generous allocations, while Bundang is discriminated against for having an opposition lawmaker?"

He further pointed out, "Even though Daechang-dong, the President's 'political wallet,' and the home of Kim Hyunji, the President's untouchable secretary, are located here, the administration is intimidating residents by asking, 'Why does Bundang trust the People Power Party more?'"

Ahn continued, "As soon as the administration changed, the entire landscape shifted. The existing approach was overturned, and the redevelopment projects have been hamstrung. The government is now ordering Bundang residents to wait their turn to exercise property rights and controlling reconstruction until the land in Daechang-dong is handed over in the next election."

He added, "The Lee Jaemyung administration now uses even public livelihood projects as a tool for political retaliation, only granting reconstruction to those who align with the administration. I will stand against this unjust discrimination."
