Sunchang-gun Opens 'Family Center' as a Hub for Welfare, Education, and Culture

"Creating a Family-Friendly Environment and Enhancing Resident Welfare"

Jeonbuk 'Sunchang-gun Family Center' held its opening ceremony on the 26th and officially opened its doors.

According to the county, the Family Center is expected to serve as a hub for welfare, education, and culture, encompassing all generations from children to the elderly. It is anticipated to significantly contribute to improving the quality of life for residents and fostering a family-friendly community.

This project was selected as part of the 2019 Living SOC Complex Project and was completed after approximately five years, starting with the design contract in February 2020.

The center operates with specialized functions on each floor. The first floor houses a small library, a shared childcare space, and a family communication and exchange area, supporting education and care. In addition, the center displays the Chungshin-ri Stone Guardian (No. 101, male) and Namgye-ri Stone Guardian (No. 102, female), both designated as national cultural assets, enhancing its historical and cultural value.

The second floor brings together the Family Center’s administrative offices, classrooms, and counseling rooms to provide welfare and counseling services in one place. This comprehensive welfare space helps stabilize residents’ daily lives and psychological well-being, offering professional counseling for problem-solving and emotional support.

The third floor integrates community education functions that were previously dispersed across the Women’s Center, Senior Welfare Center, and Okcheon Art Museum. Eleven courses, including practical sewing, muslin embroidery, and traditional ink painting, are scheduled to be offered.

County Governor Choi Youngil stated, “The Family Center will serve as a beloved gathering place for all generations of residents and as a strong, comforting center for families. We will continue to do our utmost to create a family-friendly environment, enhance resident welfare, and improve the quality of life.”

Meanwhile, the Family Center is open daily from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Information on facility use and available programs can be found on the Sunchang-gun Family Center website.
