Awards from Commissioner of the Korean Intellectual Property Office and President of the Korea Display Industry Association

Yoon Sooyoung, Chief Technology Officer (CTO) of LG Display, will be awarded the Silver Tower Order of Industrial Service Merit at the 16th Display Day ceremony held on September 26 at Lotte Hotel World in Jamsil, Seoul.

He was recognized for his contributions to the advancement of the domestic display industry, including the world's first commercialization of large-size organic light-emitting diodes (OLEDs), as well as the development of next-generation display technologies such as micro light-emitting diodes (LEDs) for signage and freely deformable stretchable displays.

Since joining LG Philips LCD (now LG Display) in 2002, Yoon has spent the past 24 years in the display industry, working to secure technological competitiveness. Since 2020, he has served as CTO, overseeing all aspects of research and development (R&D), leading the establishment of future technology strategies and the pursuit of advanced technology research.

LG Display stated that this award is significant as it acknowledges the company's achievements in pioneering new markets and R&D innovation capabilities, which have contributed to enhancing the nation's technological competitiveness.

Ryu has led the establishment of an intellectual property portfolio for core technologies such as touch-on-encapsulation (ToE) OLEDs. He was selected for the Commissioner’s Award in recognition of his contributions to strengthening the patent competitiveness of the domestic display industry.

Lee, who received the Association President’s Award, was recognized for his achievements in developing eco-friendly technologies for a sustainable future. Last year, he successfully developed and applied eco-friendly packaging materials for electronic components using recycled plastics, achieving tangible carbon reduction.

LG Display plans to further strengthen its competitiveness in OLED and next-generation display technologies and continue to deliver differentiated customer value, building on the outstanding research achievements recognized by these awards.

The Display Day ceremony, hosted by the Korea Display Industry Association, has been held annually since 2010 to commemorate October 2006, when Korea’s annual display panel exports surpassed 10 billion dollars for the first time. The event also includes awards for those who have contributed to increasing domestic sales and exports through the localization of materials, components, and equipment, or who have elevated the status of the display industry through technological innovation.
