Physical AI Global Alliance Launched: Industry, Academia, Research, and Government Join Forces

Participation from Hyundai Motor, LG, and HD Hyundai

The "Physical AI Global Alliance," which will include participation from major domestic and international companies, institutions, and research organizations, is set to launch on September 29.

The Ministry of Science and ICT announced on September 25 that the "Physical AI Global Alliance" will be launched on September 29, with the aim of securing global leadership in the field of physical artificial intelligence (AI).

The alliance will be co-chaired by seven leaders, including the ministers of the Ministry of Science and ICT, the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy, and the Ministry of SMEs and Startups; Assemblyman Chung Dongyoung of the Democratic Party of Korea and Assemblyman Choi Hyungdoo of the People Power Party from the National Assembly's Science, ICT, Broadcasting, and Communications Committee; the president of the Korea Artificial Intelligence Software Industry Association; and the president of the Korea Automobile Mobility Industry Association.

Physical AI companies such as Hyundai Motor Company, HD Hyundai Heavy Industries, and LG AI Research Institute, along with universities and research institutes, will participate, serving as a collaborative platform for industry, academia, and research sectors.

The Physical AI Global Alliance will be organized into 10 subcommittees, covering areas such as technology, solutions, governance, talent, and global cooperation.

Woo-hyung Lim, president of LG AI Research Institute, will head the technology subcommittee; Yoo-won Kim, CEO of Naver Cloud, will lead the solutions subcommittee; Kisik Min, CEO of SK Shieldus, will chair the governance subcommittee; Kwanghyung Lee, president of KAIST, will head the talent subcommittee; and Jungwon Yoon, CEO of Amazon Web Services (AWS) Korea, will lead the global cooperation subcommittee.

Dongseok Lee, CEO of Hyundai Motor Company, will chair the AI Defined Vehicle (ADV) subcommittee; Minpyo Kim, CEO of Doosan Robotics, will head the Fully Autonomous Robot subcommittee; Sangkyun Lee, CEO of HD Hyundai Heavy Industries, will lead the Core Industry subcommittee; Hee Hwang, CEO of Kakao Healthcare, will head the Wellness Tech subcommittee; and Junho Baek, CEO of FuriosaAI, and Sunghyun Park, CEO of Rebellion, will jointly chair the Automated Content Recognition (ACR) subcommittee.
