This weekend, traffic will be restricted in various parts of central Seoul, including Yeouido and Sejong-daero, due to the Yeouido World Fireworks Festival and rallies in the downtown area.
On September 25, the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency announced that major roads throughout Seoul will be subject to traffic control on September 27 and 28 due to events such as the World Fireworks Festival and rallies.
On September 27, when the World Fireworks Festival takes place, all vehicle traffic will be prohibited on Yeouidong-ro (from the southern end of Mapo Bridge to the 63 Building) from 2:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. Traffic flow in five areas, including Yeouinaru-ro and Gukjegeumyung-ro, will be flexibly managed according to conditions.
Illegally parked or stopped vehicles on bridges over the Han River or on expressways (Gangbyeonbuk-ro and Olympic-daero) will be towed, and strict enforcement and guidance will be carried out simultaneously. After the festival, one lane on Hangang Bridge will be restricted to prioritize pedestrian safety.
In Seocho District, the Seoripul Festival will be held, and in Gangnam District, the Yeongdong-daero K-POP Concert will take place. Parts of Banpo-daero and Yeongdong-daero will be restricted, and detour routes will be provided to minimize inconvenience for citizens.
On September 28, the 'Seoul Walk Festival' will be held, starting from Dongdaemun Digital Plaza in Jung-gu and continuing along Yulgok-ro to Gwanghwamun Intersection. Traffic congestion is expected in the Yulgok-ro area. To manage the surrounding traffic, the police plan to deploy up to 1,200 personnel, including traffic police officers and model drivers, to guide vehicles and maintain smooth traffic flow.
Large-scale rallies are also scheduled. The Climate Justice March Organizing Committee will hold a rally on September 27, marching from Dongsipja Intersection toward Naeja Intersection and continuing to Gwanghwamun Intersection. The police will operate the opposite lane of the rally route as a reversible lane to maintain minimum traffic flow. For the Freedom Unification Party rally taking place between Sejong Intersection and Daehanmun Intersection, the remaining opposite lane will also be operated as a reversible lane.
A police official stated, "As traffic congestion is expected throughout Seoul, we strongly recommend using the subway, and if you must drive, please check real-time traffic information in advance."
