Jeollanam-do Province announced on the 24th that the "Namdo Film Festival Season 2 Gwangyang" will be held throughout Gwangyang for five days, from the 23rd to the 27th of next month.
Following the first season in Suncheon in 2023, this is the second Namdo Film Festival, a local film festival that rebrands the tastes, styles, and culture of the Namdo region every two years. While Season 1 in Suncheon captured the nature-friendly and peaceful landscapes of Namdo, Season 2 in Gwangyang will showcase a different charm amid the dynamic scenery where light and steel blend together.
With the theme "Colored by Light and Steel!", the festival will present 81 films from 12 countries, including special programs such as the "Gwangyang Ten-Million-Viewer Film Special" and "Actors, Become Directors!", offering a variety of experiences for audiences.
The festival will kick off its five-day journey with a red carpet opening ceremony featuring actors and directors at Gwangyang Citizens' Square & Outdoor Performance Hall on October 23.
Key programs include the "Gwangyang Ten-Million-Viewer Film Special" on October 24 and the actor-director special program "Actors, Become Directors!" on October 25. On October 26, there will be a screening of the documentary "Pink Moon," featuring artist Yoon Seoknam, along with a lecture by critic Lee Yeonsook.
Kang Hyoseok, Director of Culture and Prosperity at Jeollanam-do Province, stated, "The industry and culture of Gwangyang, together with the identity of Namdo, will create an even more moving experience through film. We will do our utmost to ensure that the Namdo Film Festival grows with the region and becomes a source of pride for all residents."
The "Namdo Film Festival Season 2 Gwangyang" will offer free screenings of 81 films from 12 countries across eight screens at five venues, including Gwangyang Citizens' Square & Outdoor Performance Hall, Steinbeck Korea Gwangyang Port, Jeonnam Provincial Art Museum, CGV Gwangyang, and Gwangyang Culture & Arts Center. Detailed information on the festival schedule and film lineup can be found on the official Namdo Film Festival website and Instagram.
On the 23rd, Choi Soo-jong, Executive Committee Chair of the Namdo Film Festival, and Park Jeong-sook, Vice Executive Committee Chair, held a promotional event at CGV Myeongdong Station Cine Library in Seoul to introduce the festival's vision, major films, and programs. Jeollanam-do Province and the Namdo Film Festival Executive Committee plan to continue active promotional efforts through various media channels.
