This event was organized to commemorate and reflect on the significance of the Goryeong Jisan-dong Tumuli, which was inscribed as South Korea's 16th UNESCO World Heritage Site at the 45th session of the World Heritage Committee on September 23, 2023.
The ceremony featured a variety of programs, including the 2025 National Heritage Media Art, a traditional drum performance, and a drone light show.
During the drone light show celebrating the second anniversary of the inscription, 520 drones lit up the night sky. The number 520 symbolizes the 520-year history of the Daegaya Kingdom, which was founded in 42 AD and fell in 562, and the show incorporated various content highlighting the historical and cultural characteristics of Goryeong County as both a World Heritage City and the ancient capital of Daegaya, captivating both residents and visitors with the charm of this historical and cultural city.
In addition, the 2025 National Heritage Media Art at the Goryeong Jisan-dong Tumuli is being held under the theme "Daegaya, Twelve Stars," reinterpreting the glory of Daegaya embedded in the tumuli through media art, alongside the twelve Gayageum pieces composed by the renowned Daegaya musician Ureuk. The media art will be showcased daily from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. until October 12, the final day of the Chuseok holiday.
Various related events are also scheduled. The Goryeong County Gayageum Orchestra's regular concert will be held on September 24, the Daegaya Culture and Arts Festival and the Daegaya History Talk Concert on September 27, the Gayatgo Music Festival on October 2, The Candle in Goryeong on October 3, and the Gaya Tumuli Bubble Show on October 11. Additional activities such as a stamp tour and SNS certification events are also planned to encourage participation from returning residents and tourists.
Goryeong County stated that through this anniversary event, they hope to reaffirm the significance of the Jisan-dong Tumuli's World Heritage inscription and its designation as the ancient capital of Daegaya, and to introduce new nighttime content for Daegaya's cultural heritage through the "2025 National Heritage Media Art at Goryeong Jisan-dong Tumuli," inviting the public to show interest and visit.
