Dongmyung University and Busan Namgu Office Sign Agreement to Support Multicultural Families and Foreigners

Dongmyung University (President Lee Sangcheon) and Busan Namgu Office (District Mayor Oh Euntaek) signed a business agreement on September 22 at the university campus to support multicultural families and foreigners in the local community.

The purpose of this agreement is to establish a cooperative system that enables various immigrants-including marriage immigrants and their families, international students, and foreign workers-to settle stably in the community.


The two institutions agreed to cooperate in the following areas: establishing and operating a multicultural center; providing advice and support for marriage immigrant leader groups; jointly operating programs to raise awareness of multiculturalism and promote integration; advising on surveys of the actual conditions of multicultural families; and fostering experts in multicultural education.


The signing ceremony was attended by Lee Sangcheon, President of Dongmyung University; Lee Eungju, Vice President; Tae Dongsook, Dean of the College of Future Convergence; and Kim Sangsoo, Head of the Department of Korean Language Education and Multicultural Studies. From Namgu Office, Oh Euntaek, District Mayor; Kim Hyeok, Director of Welfare and Education; Lim Sukkyung, Head of the Family-Friendly Division; and Kang Eonhee, Head of the Women and Family Team, were present.


President Lee Sangcheon stated, "Multicultural families are the future assets and new driving force of our society," adding, "We expect that this cooperation will bring about real changes in the lives of various immigrants, including marriage immigrants, international students, and workers."


Kim Sangsoo, Head of the Department, emphasized, "This will be an opportunity for students to hear voices directly in the field and to develop educational and support measures."


After the signing ceremony, a plaque unveiling ceremony for the 'TU Multicultural Center' was held, attended by current students from the Department of Korean Language Education and Multicultural Studies and both internal and external stakeholders. The center is expanding its role as a regional multicultural hub institution and is currently conducting a survey on the actual conditions of multicultural families in Namgu.


In the future, the center plans to operate various programs, including enhancing the educational background and self-reliance capabilities of marriage immigrants, providing parental education for multicultural families, and supporting home learning.
