Linked with “Wish Fulfillment Festa” from September 26 to 28
On September 23, Geumcheon District in Seoul (District Mayor Yoo Seonghun) and the Geumcheon Cultural Foundation (CEO Seo Youngcheol) announced that the “2025 Geumcheon Siheung Haenggung Cultural Festival” will be held on September 27 and 28 along Eunhaengnamu-ro. Starting on September 26, the day before the main festival, the nearby area will also host the “2025 Byeoljanggil Brand Festival” (subtitled: Wish Fulfillment Festa, So-Seong-Fe), turning the entire region into a festive venue.
Geumcheon District is home to the Siheung Haenggung, where King Jeongjo stayed for a day in 1795 during his royal procession to visit the tomb of Crown Prince Sado in celebration of his mother, Lady Hyegyeong Hong’s 60th birthday. This year, Geumcheon District is reinterpreting this historical asset in a modern context and presenting the “Geumcheon Siheung Haenggung Cultural Festival” for the first time. The event is linked to the “King Jeongjo Royal Procession Joint Reenactment,” which is held in collaboration with Seoul City, Gyeonggi Province, Suwon City, and Hwaseong City.
The theme of this year’s festival is “Mancheonmyeongwol (Ten Thousand Rivers, Bright Moon): Illuminating and Inspiring Geumcheon,” reflecting King Jeongjo’s political philosophy and aiming to deliver hope and joy to Geumcheon residents. On September 27, the festival will feature an opening performance and a community parade, while the joint reenactment of the royal procession will be the main program on September 28. The festival will also offer a variety of performances, including traditional folk arts, a historical situation play on petitions, local artist showcases, and a special lecture by historian Kim Jaewon.
There will also be hands-on programs for children and families. Activities such as coloring a large royal procession painting, creating a 3D model of Siheung Haenggung, making lanterns, and nacre keyring craft workshops are available free of charge. In addition, traditional tea ceremony experiences and docent-led tours of Siheung Haenggung require advance reservations through the Geumcheon Cultural Foundation’s website.
Meanwhile, from September 26 to 28, the “2025 Byeoljanggil Brand Festival” will take place in the areas around Byeoljanggil, Eunhaengnamu Market, and Omi Ecological Park, featuring performances, a night market, and interactive events. Highlighted programs include wish calligraphy, the original musical “Eunhaengnamu Healing,” the performance “Ganggangsuwollae,” and the ecological park night walk “Omiwon, Bathed in Light.”
Seo Youngcheol, CEO of the Geumcheon Cultural Foundation, said, “Just like ‘Mancheonmyeongwol,’ I hope this festival will brightly illuminate all neighbors and visitors in Geumcheon.”
Yoo Seonghun, Mayor of Geumcheon District, stated, “The Geumcheon Siheung Haenggung Cultural Festival is a celebration where the past and present, art and residents come together through the district’s important historical and cultural assets. By reflecting on the spirit of the royal procession, we will strive to make Geumcheon a better place for all residents.”
