Daejeon Mayor Lee Jangwoo stated, "Integrity, fairness, and responsibility are the fundamentals of public service," adding, "The youthful energy and fresh perspectives of new civil servants will invigorate city administration."

Mayor Lee Jangwoo spent time engaging in dialogue with prospective civil servants who are about to be appointed.

On the morning of September 23, the city held a 'Communication Talk' at the KT Daejeon Human Resources Development Center in Seo-gu for 321 new appointment candidates for 2025. Mayor Lee attended the event and had an open conversation with the trainees on the values of public service and the direction of city administration.

The trainees asked questions about concerns they experienced while preparing for actual work, intergenerational communication, and current city issues. A variety of questions were exchanged, such as "What motivated you to run for mayor and what is your vision?", "What is the secret to the success of the Zero O’Clock Festival?", and "What makes Daejeon's character Kumdori so appealing?" The atmosphere was filled with laughter and empathy.

The composition of participants also drew attention. Among the total 321 candidates, those in their 20s numbered 224 (70%), making up the largest group, and women accounted for 191 (60%), outnumbering men. The job categories were also diverse, including administration, facilities, industry, health, and librarianship. The youngest participant was a 20-year-old woman, while the oldest was a 57-year-old man.

At the end of the event, all trainees expressed their commitment to public service by flying paper airplanes inscribed with their pledges, reaffirming their determination for a new beginning. This was followed by a group commemorative photo.

The training for new appointment candidates is being conducted over three weeks, from September 8 to September 26. It consists of one week of online training and two weeks of in-person training, covering topics such as public service values, laws, budgeting, accounting, and understanding organizational culture. After completing the training, the candidates will be assigned to the city hall, city council, or district offices.
