Launching Ceremony Held for the Designation of Gyeongnam Next-Generation Advanced Satellite Global Innovation Zone
The Korea SMEs and Startups Agency announced on September 23 that it held the launching ceremony for the "Gyeongnam Next-Generation Advanced Satellite Global Innovation Zone" at the Asia Lakeside Hotel in Jinju, Gyeongsangnam-do.
The "Global Innovation Zone" is an upgraded version of the existing regulatory free zone, where the government supports demonstration exemptions for new technologies and new industries in Korea. The program selects regions and sectors to support overseas expansion, including overseas certification and demonstration. Gyeongsangnam-do was newly designated as a global zone for next-generation advanced satellites in May this year, and the event was organized to commemorate the official launch of the project.
With this designation, the Gyeongnam Advanced Satellite Zone will receive extensive government support over the next four years, including: overseas demonstration and certification operations, joint overseas demonstration research and development, subscription to demonstration liability insurance for new industries, and global networking.
At the event, the Korea SMEs and Startups Agency and Gyeongsangnam-do signed a business agreement for the Global Innovation Zone project, reported on the progress of the project, presented case studies from participating companies, and held a seminar on aerospace.
Kim Gapsan, CEO of Ezpark, who spoke on behalf of the participating companies, said, "The Global Innovation Zone is a valuable system that helps regional companies with new industries and technologies enter overseas markets. I hope that relevant ministries and agencies will continue to show interest so that the demonstration results in the zone can lead to exports."
Kang Seokjin, Chairman of the Korea SMEs and Startups Agency, stated, "As the dedicated agency for the Global Innovation Zone, we will strive not only to support overseas certification and demonstrations but also to address challenges in all aspects of business operations, including funding and manpower. We will do our best to help revitalize the local economy through support for the zone."
