To Be Held at the Open Stage of Shinsegae Department Store Gangnam Branch on September 27-28
Free Tasting Events and Special Barista Demonstrations for Visitors
On September 23, Dongseo Food announced that it will hold the finals of the "2025 KANU Barista Championship" at the Open Stage on the first floor of Central City, Shinsegae Department Store Gangnam Branch in Seoul, from September 27 to 28.
The "2025 KANU Barista Championship," now in its second year following last year's event, is a barista competition organized by Dongseo Food to showcase the expertise of the coffee brand "KANU" and contribute to the advancement of domestic coffee culture. Starting with participant recruitment in May, the competition held intense preliminary rounds over five days in July at Maxim Plant in Hannam-dong, with a total of eight baristas advancing to the finals.
On the first day of the finals, September 27, participants will compete in hot Americano and iced latte categories. On September 28, the finalists will present their own original menu creations. The winner will receive a prize of 30 million won, while the second and third place winners will receive 10 million won and 5 million won, respectively. The judging panel includes coffee experts, led by Um Boram, the winner of the 2023 World Barista Championship (WBC).
In anticipation of the finals, Dongseo Food will operate a brand zone, sampling zone, and KANU Market pop-up near the event venue from September 25 to 28. Visitors can directly experience KANU products, enjoy free tastings, and participate in on-site events for a chance to win generous prizes.
At the KANU Market pop-up on the basement level 1 of Shinsegae Department Store Gangnam Branch, consumers can choose their preferred roasting strength and acidity, sample and purchase a variety of products such as sticks, capsules, and beans, and attend a special demonstration by barista Um Boram.
On September 26, the day before the finals, there will be coffee-making demonstrations by last year’s KANU Barista Championship finalists, as well as a special demonstration by singer-songwriter Code Kunst, who drew attention as a participant in this year’s competition. On September 28, invited singer Jungin will also give a special performance.
