Meet the Prehistoric Geology Trail
at Hantangang
Pocheon City in Gyeonggi Province (Mayor Baek Younghyeon) announced on September 22 that the October course for the National Heritage Visit Campaign, hosted by the National Heritage Administration and organized by the National Heritage Promotion Agency, has been designated as the "Prehistoric Geology Trail." In line with this, a variety of hands-on programs will be offered at the Pocheon Hantangang Global Geopark.

The National Heritage Visit Course consists of 10 trails and 76 hubs, focusing on Korea's cultural, intangible, and natural heritage. The National Heritage Visit Campaign introduces a "Course of the Month" tailored to the season and period, and offers various benefits such as free admission for visitors holding a Visitor Passport.
This October's course, themed "The Time of the Earth Inhabited by Humans," features the Hantangang Global Geopark. In Pocheon, the main hubs include the Hantangang Global Geopark Center, Bidulginang Falls, Hwajeokyeon, and Pocheon Art Valley.
At the Hantangang Global Geopark Center, a special event will be held for holders of the "National Heritage Visitor Passport" who verify the "Prehistoric Geology Trail" page. The "National Heritage Visitor Passport" is available on a first-come, first-served basis through the National Heritage Visit Campaign website.
Throughout October, the following benefits will be provided free of charge on a first-come, first-served basis: free admission (limited to 2,000 people), hands-on activities (Shrinkle keyring making for 10 people, geological cake making for 10 teams, snow geology cookie making for 10 teams), and use of the Geo-Cart (30 people). However, each benefit is limited to one-time admission, one choice among the three hands-on activities, and one use of the Geo-Cart per person.
A Pocheon City official stated, "It is meaningful that we can widely promote the geological and ecological value of the Hantangang Global Geopark through this campaign," adding, "We will do our best to make the prehistoric geological heritage of Pocheon, Yeoncheon, and Cheorwon more familiar to the public."
This event is expected to both convey the significance of geological heritage and the prehistoric era to visitors in an engaging way, and greatly contribute to boosting local tourism and encouraging repeat visits.
