Gwangju Seo-gu Council, chaired by Jeon Seungil, operated the 10th 'Youth Council Experience Program' on the 20th in the main assembly hall and standing committee meeting rooms.
This program was organized for about 40 members of the Seo-gu Youth District Participation Group, providing an opportunity for young people to directly learn about and experience the functions and roles of local councils.
The participating students watched a promotional video introducing the history of Seo-gu Council and its members, received basic concept education to learn about the council's functions, roles, and composition, and toured the council's main facilities to observe legislative activities that are not easily accessible in daily life.
In particular, Lim Seonghwa, Chairperson of the Council Operations Committee, led a case-based lecture on the theme of 'Functions and Roles of Local Councils,' engaged in a Q&A session with the students, and received a positive response for the approachable explanations.
During the mock council session held in the main assembly hall, students took on the roles of district council members and experienced the actual meeting procedures, from the opening ceremony to two-minute free speeches.
The young participants freely expressed their opinions on everyday inconveniences and community issues, gaining a meaningful understanding of the democratic decision-making process.
One student who participated in the program shared, "It was much easier to understand the role of local councils by experiencing it firsthand rather than just reading about it in books, and I felt proud to be able to present my own opinions."
Chairman Jeon Seungil stated, "I hope this council experience program serves as a foundation for young people to understand the role of local councils and grow into democratic citizens."
