Assemblywoman Im stated, "Victory in Gyeongbuk is synonymous with victory for the Lee Jaemyung administration and is the driving force for state governance," expressing her determination to achieve tangible results in the 2026 local elections.
Im Miae, a proportional representation member of the National Assembly from the Democratic Party of Korea, officially announced her candidacy for the position of Gyeongbuk Provincial Party Chairperson on the 20th in front of Gyeongbuk residents and party members.
In her declaration of candidacy, Assemblywoman Im emphasized, "Daegu and Gyeongbuk are the final frontlines in overcoming rebellion and the last battleground for the restoration of democracy," adding, "The Democratic Party's support rate, which was only 9.6% in the 14th presidential election, grew to 25.52% in the 21st presidential election. This demonstrates the potential of Gyeongbuk."
She continued, "For over 40 years, conservative parties have monopolized administrative and legislative power, which has intensified regional extinction and economic hardship," and stressed, "The Gyeongbuk Democratic Party must embody the residents' desire for change and open a new path."
Focusing on party member sovereignty, the establishment of a Gyeongbuk public medical school, and victory in the local elections, Assemblywoman Im presented three core visions for innovating the Gyeongbuk Provincial Party.
◆ Strengthening Party Member Sovereignty
Assemblywoman Im declared, "The source of strength for the Gyeongbuk Provincial Party is its members," and pledged, "I will establish a structure where members directly participate in decision-making and ensure that policy proposals are connected to the central government through both online and offline platforms."
◆ Establishment of the Gyeongbuk Public Medical School
Assemblywoman Im stated, "I will ensure the establishment of a medical school, a long-cherished wish and longstanding challenge for Gyeongbuk residents," and added, "By leveraging the activities of the Special Committee on Budget and Accounts and the cooperation between the central party and the Gyeongbuk parliamentary group, I will demonstrate the Democratic Party's competence."
◆ Victory in the 2026 Local Elections
Assemblywoman Im emphasized, "This election is the first evaluation of the Lee Jaemyung administration," and pledged, "Victory in Gyeongbuk will directly translate into effective governance. I will ensure that Gyeongbuk Democratic Party members can proudly hold bouquets of flowers by securing victory."
◆ "The Gyeongbuk Democratic Party, Proud and Unafraid"
Assemblywoman Im stressed, "I, Im Miae, will become a tool for my fellow Gyeongbuk party members and work diligently," and added, "I will create a Gyeongbuk where members can confidently say, 'I am a Democratic Party member,' without fear."
She also stated, "I will connect all of Gyeongbuk's assets-from Pohang's hydrogen reduction steelmaking, Gumi's semiconductors and secondary batteries, to Andong's culture and Uiseong's agriculture-to the Democratic Party's transformation," and added, "I will ensure that the achievements of the Lee Jaemyung administration lead to greater satisfaction in the lives of Gyeongbuk residents."
Assemblywoman Im's candidacy announcement is drawing attention as it aligns with the Democratic Party's strategy to secure a foothold in Gyeongbuk. The declaration to strengthen the Democratic Party's organizational power in a region long dominated by conservative parties is seen as an attempt to shift the atmosphere ahead of next year's local elections.
In particular, her emphasis on "party member sovereignty" and her pledge to foster young politicians and rebuild the organization in Gyeongbuk are interpreted as efforts to strengthen ties with the central party.
