Samsung to Hire 60,000 New Employees Over Five Years, Focusing on Semiconductors, Biotechnology, and AI

Plan to Hire 12,000 New Employees Annually
Securing Talent in Core Industries
Strengthening Recruitment-Linked Internships and Technical Talent Hiring

Samsung plans to hire 60,000 new employees over the next five years, aiming to foster future growth industries and create jobs for young people. The company is accelerating its efforts to secure talent, focusing on key sectors such as semiconductors, biotechnology, and artificial intelligence (AI).

On September 18, Samsung Electronics announced that it will hire 12,000 new employees annually to actively nurture future growth businesses and create youth employment opportunities. The company explained that it will particularly increase recruitment in major component businesses centered on semiconductors, the biotechnology industry, and the field of artificial intelligence (AI).

In line with its management philosophy that prioritizes talent, Samsung has maintained an open recruitment system, first introduced in South Korea in 1957. The company has led the way in "open recruitment," establishing a public recruitment process for female university graduates in 1993 and abolishing academic background restrictions in 1995. Currently, 19 affiliates-including Samsung Electronics, Samsung C&T, and Samsung Biologics-are conducting public recruitment in the second half of the year.

To expand youth employment, Samsung will also strengthen its internship programs that are linked to recruitment and increase the hiring of skilled technical talent. The company plans to expand the scale of university student internships to provide more opportunities for work experience, and actively hire outstanding interns. In addition, Samsung is taking the lead in broadening the base of technical talent by actively hiring Meister High School graduates and national skills competition winners. Since 2007, Samsung has sponsored skills competitions and the WorldSkills Competition, and has specially recruited 1,600 winners of the national skills competition to date.

Beyond direct hiring, Samsung is also contributing to alleviating youth unemployment through social responsibility programs focused on youth education. Notable examples include the Samsung Software & AI Academy for Youth (SSAFY), Hope Stepping Stone 2.0, C-Lab Outside, and Youth Hope Center, among others.
