Yongin's Jukjeon Fashion Town Stores Now Able to Accept Yongin Wipay

The Yongin city government announced on the 18th that, following a review by the Gyeonggi Local Currency Review Committee on the 15th, individual stores within Jukjeon Fashion Town have been approved to register as local currency merchants.

As a result, there are now three large-scale stores in the Yongin area where local currency can be used: Suwon Premium Outlet in Yeongdeok-dong, Giheung-gu; Junev Sunworld in Dongbaek-dong, Giheung-gu; and now Jukjeon Fashion Town.

This approval was granted in response to the city’s continuous requests to the committee to improve the system so that individual stores operated by small business owners within large-scale shopping centers could also register as local currency merchants.

Based on the city’s proposal, the committee established criteria last year for lifting restrictions on large-scale stores in collective buildings (sale-type), allowing 'other stores' and 'specialty stores' within large-scale outlets to be evaluated for registration. This led to the approval of Suwon Premium Outlet as a local currency merchant. Subsequently, the city requested that the evaluation criteria be expanded to include 'shopping centers,' and the committee reflected this change in June, resulting in Junev Sunworld being registered as a merchant in July this year.

Lee Sangil, Mayor of Yongin, stated, "With this approval, consumers will have more places to use local currency, and small business owners can expect increased sales. We will continue our efforts to ensure that more small business stores within large-scale shopping centers are allowed to register in the future."
