On September 18, an Army soldier from a unit based in Imsil, North Jeolla Province, died after falling from a civilian apartment complex in Jinan County.
According to the Army and other sources, at around 5 a.m. that day, Sergeant A (in his 20s) was found collapsed after falling in a civilian apartment complex in Jinan-eup, Jinan County, North Jeolla Province. The soldier was transported to a civilian hospital but ultimately passed away.
The soldier, who was nearing discharge, belonged to a unit in Imsil, North Jeolla Province, and was reportedly not on leave at the time. It remains unclear how the deceased traveled from Imsil, where his unit is located, to Jinan.
The Army and civilian investigative agencies are currently investigating the exact cause and circumstances of the incident.
Meanwhile, in response to a series of fatal firearm and safety accidents, the Ministry of National Defense is conducting a special, comprehensive inspection of all soldiers and civilian employees in each military branch and directly affiliated units and agencies for about two weeks until September 30.
