Meta Platforms, the parent company of Facebook, has unveiled its first artificial intelligence (AI) smart glasses equipped with a display. On September 17 (local time), Meta held its annual developer event, 'Meta Connect 2025,' at its headquarters in Menlo Park, California, and introduced the 'Meta-Ray-Ban Display.'

Mark Zuckerberg, CEO of Meta, took the stage wearing and demonstrating the glasses himself. He emphasized, "Smart glasses are devices that connect directly to a user's vision and hearing, allowing for the most natural communication with AI," adding, "They will serve as an always-on, personal assistant-like interface."

The standout feature of the new product is a small display embedded in one of the lenses. Through this screen, users can check text notifications or watch videos. The display is positioned slightly to the side so as not to obstruct the field of view, and it automatically disappears when not in use.

Brightness and resolution are also key strengths. CEO Zuckerberg explained, "It is designed to remain clear even in bright outdoor sunlight."

Meta also introduced an input device that allows users to remotely control the glasses. Called the 'Meta Neural Band,' it is a wristband worn like a watch. Even the slightest finger movement enables text input or volume adjustment. This product will go on sale starting September 30 at a price of 799 dollars (approximately 1.1 million won). There are currently no plans for a domestic release.

Meta has previously collaborated with the eyewear brand Ray-Ban to sell the 'Ray-Ban Meta,' which focused on camera and speaker functions. At this event, an upgraded version of this product was also unveiled. The battery life has doubled, and the camera now supports 3K video recording. A newly added feature, 'Conversation Focus,' reduces ambient noise and amplifies the voice of the person you are talking to.

A new product developed in collaboration with sports brand Oakley was also introduced. The 'Oakley Meta Vanguard' is a model specialized for sports, capable of recording stable video even during intense activities such as running or cycling. The camera is centrally positioned to provide a field of view that matches the user's gaze (122-degree wide angle). It is water-resistant and can be used for more than nine hours on a single charge-enough to run two marathons. The price is 499 dollars (approximately 700,000 won), and it will be released on October 21.

Meta also announced plans to strengthen its software and content ecosystem in addition to hardware. To make it easier for developers to create virtual spaces, Meta introduced the 'Horizon Studio' virtual world creation tool and a new graphics engine called 'Horizon Engine.' This engine is expected to offer four times faster loading speeds compared to the previous version and significantly increase the number of simultaneous users.

Additionally, Meta announced the launch of 'Horizon TV' in partnership with major streaming platforms such as Disney+, Hulu, and ESPN. The goal is to enable users to enjoy movies, sports, and concerts more immersively through virtual reality (VR) devices or smart glasses.
