Enhancing Diverse Experiential Tourism with Ganggyeong National Heritage Night Tour, Old Houses, and Traditional Temples
Nonsan City in South Chungcheong Province has laid the foundation to become a stay-type tourism city by utilizing national heritage.
The city announced on the 18th that it had been selected for seven projects across five categories in the 2026 Local National Heritage Utilization Project, organized by the National Heritage Administration, securing a total project budget of 1.182 billion won (including 473 million won in national funding).
The national heritage utilization projects include: ▲Vivid National Heritage Project (Ganggyeong National Registered Cultural Heritage, selected for eight consecutive years) ▲Old Houses and Head Families Utilization Project (Yeonsan Gojong-ri, seven consecutive years) ▲Traditional Temple Utilization Project (Ssanggyesa Temple, ten years; Gaetaesa Temple, two consecutive years) ▲Confucian School and Seowon Utilization Project (Yeonsan Hyanggyo, seven years; Nogang Seowon, two consecutive years) ▲Ganggyeong National Heritage Night Tour, among others.
In particular, the Ganggyeong National Heritage Night Tour has established itself as Nonsan's signature nighttime tourism content, having received the Special Award at the 2025 Korea Festival Content Awards.
The city is promoting the development of stay-type tourism resources, allowing visitors to directly experience the history of Ganggyeong Port, the 600-year-old culture of traditional houses, and the value of traditional temples, Confucian schools, and seowon, all based on Nonsan’s rich national heritage spanning from the Baekje era to modern times.
Mayor Baek Seonghyeon stated, "The fact that many of our national heritage sites have been selected for several consecutive years is a testament to the recognized value and potential of Nonsan’s national heritage," adding, "We will continue to establish national heritage as a cultural asset in daily life and use it as a driving force for regional development."
