Gongju City Recruiting Residents for Youth Shared Housing

The city of Gongju in South Chungcheong Province is accelerating its 'Youth Shared Housing' project, which aims to provide stable housing for young people.

On September 17, the city announced that it has completed the third shared housing unit, located at 13-3, Jungdong 1-gil (formerly Sujeong Women's Inn), after remodeling the building, and is now recruiting residents.

According to the city, the shared house is designed in a guesthouse style with a two-story structure and is equipped with four bedrooms (each with a bathroom), a living room, a kitchen, a laundry room, and an office space.

Eligible residents are young adults aged 18 to 45 who either currently live in Gongju or plan to move there and do not own a home.

The minimum residency period is one month, and it can be freely selected up to a maximum of six months. Residents can extend their stay up to four times, allowing for a maximum stay of two years. The monthly usage fee is set at around 50,000 won, with additional charges for utilities such as electricity.

Since 2022, the city has divided the original downtown area of Jungdong and Sanseong-dong into four zones and has been developing a total of five shared housing units in various forms, including studio-type, guesthouse-type, and officetel-type accommodations.

Currently, two buildings in Zone 1 (the former Geumgang Massage area) are under construction, and the city plans to complete and operate all zones within this year.

A city official stated, "We will strengthen housing support so that young people can settle down stably," adding, "We will apply for designation as a youth-friendly city and pursue comprehensive youth policies."
