Mokpo City in South Jeolla Province will host the 2025 Mokpo Harbor Festival for three days from September 26 to 28 at Mokpo Port and the Samhakdo area.
According to the city, this year’s festival will center on Mokpo’s unique maritime culture, Pasi (traditional fish market), combining citizen participation programs and nighttime media art exhibitions to present a harbor festival where romance and art coexist.
In particular, the festival’s main program, the ‘Marine Fish Market Pasi,’ will utilize pontoons and barges to dock six real fishing boats, allowing visitors to participate directly. Traditional auctions, courtyard theater performances, and direct seafood trading experiences will vividly recreate the bustling atmosphere of Mokpo Port in the past.
Hands-on content has also been significantly enhanced. Programs that anyone can enjoy, such as a citizen fishing tournament and a children’s sea playground, have been prepared. The fishing tournament will be held in a tournament format, providing an opportunity for local residents to unite and for generations to interact.
At night, the festival grounds will be illuminated by a media art sea path, an LED media lighthouse, and wish candle lights, offering a unique nighttime experience. New programs such as ‘Ocean Moonlight Cinema’ and ‘100m of Romance, Harbor Book Bar-da’ have been planned to allow visitors to enjoy both culture and relaxation amidst the ambiance of the harbor.
The food zone has strengthened trust and eco-friendly operations with the installation of POS payment terminals, the operation of a price gouging prevention center, and the introduction of reusable containers. Additionally, a special tasting program, ‘ONE BITE IN MOKPO,’ presented by three local chefs, will allow visitors to experience the fresh flavors of seasonal seafood firsthand.
Mokpo City will expand convenience facilities such as baby rest areas, nursing rooms, smoking booths, and rest lounges, and will increase the number of shuttle buses to alleviate traffic congestion. The city has also upgraded its safety management system by utilizing safety drones and CCTV.
A city official stated, “The 2025 Mokpo Harbor Festival has been meticulously prepared, from the recreation of the traditional Pasi and citizen participation programs to safety and convenience facilities. We hope that many citizens and tourists will be able to experience the true charm of Mokpo, the harbor city.”
