Open Concert, Special Lecture, and Robot Competition Among Featured Events
Yeongdeungpo District in Seoul (District Mayor Choi Hokwon) announced on September 16 that, in celebration of the 30th Yeongdeungpo Residents' Day, it has prepared a variety of commemorative events and special benefits for residents to enjoy together from September 15 to 29.
September 28 marks the day in 1946 when Yeongdeungpo District was incorporated into Seoul, and since 1996, the district has held annual commemorative events. This year, in particular, marks the 30th anniversary, and a wider array of programs has been prepared to celebrate the occasion.
The main event is the “30th Anniversary KBS Open Concert (Yeongdeungpo District Special),” which will be held at 7:30 p.m. on September 16 at KBS Hall in Yeouido. This performance is scheduled to air on November 9. On September 24, the “Residents' Day Commemorative Ceremony” will take place at Yeongdeungpo Art Hall, featuring a screening of a video on the future of Yeongdeungpo as envisioned by AI, a video highlighting the achievements of the third anniversary of the 8th popularly elected administration, a reading of the Residents' Charter, the appointment of honorary district mayors, an awards ceremony for outstanding residents, and a group singing of the Residents' Day song.
New programs are also drawing attention. On September 27, the “1st Yeongdeungpo Robot Competition” will be held with the participation of world-renowned robotics engineer Dennis Hong. Two hundred students from grades 4 to 6 at local elementary schools will present robots they have created to address social issues, and Dennis Hong will provide on-site coaching. The district plans to develop this competition into a flagship science event to foster future innovative talent.
Other programs include a special lecture by Professor Jeong Jaeseung (September 20 at Singil Chaekmaru Culture Center), a traveling concert by the Yeongdeungpo Volunteer Orchestra (September 22), the Seoul World Fireworks Festival in Yeouido (September 27), and the Anyangcheon Healing Walkathon (September 28), offering a wide range of events for all generations and social groups.
Special benefits for residents have also been prepared. These include a 50% discount on admission to the Jureongjureong Zoo Yeongdeungpo branch, the issuance of 9.3 billion won in Yeongdeungpo Love Gift Certificates, an additional 5.1 billion won in Yeongdeungpo Ttaenggyeoyo Gift Certificates, and prize events at traditional markets. Detailed information can be found on the “Our District News” bulletin board on the district office website or in the September issue of the Yeongdeungpo Newsletter.
Choi Hokwon, Mayor of Yeongdeungpo District, stated, “We will use the footsteps we have taken together with our residents over the past 30 years as a foundation to communicate with residents and prepare for even greater progress in the future,” adding, “As we look back on 30 years of growth, we will work with residents to usher in the ‘Great Transformation Era of Yeongdeungpo.’”
