A father who beat his one-month-old son to death because the baby would not sleep has been arrested by the police.

The Women and Juvenile Crime Investigation Unit of the Daegu Metropolitan Police Agency announced on the 15th that they had arrested a man in his 30s, identified as Kim, on charges of child abuse resulting in death under the Act on Special Cases Concerning the Punishment of Child Abuse Crimes, as well as abandoning a corpse under the Criminal Act.

Kim is accused of fatally beating his 35-day-old son at their home in Gugi-myeon, Dalseong-gun, Daegu, on September 10, allegedly because the baby would not sleep, and then abandoning the body in a nearby mountain the following day. On September 13, he turned himself in to the police, who later discovered the deceased infant after conducting a search.

On the same day, Judge Son Bonggi, who is in charge of warrants at the Daegu District Court, issued an arrest warrant for Kim following a pre-arrest suspect interrogation (detention warrant hearing), stating, "Not only is the motive for the crime difficult to understand, but the consequences are severe, and there are concerns about destruction of evidence and flight risk." When Kim appeared at the court for the hearing and was asked by reporters whether he admitted to the charges, he did not respond.
