Matsuyama to Appear in Cheonan This October

Set to Compete at Genesis Championship at Woojeong Hills
First Asian Player to Win the Masters in 2021
Record 11 PGA Tour Victories by an Asian Player

Hideki Matsuyama of Japan will make an appearance in Cheonan this October.

The Genesis Championship Organizing Committee, jointly hosted by the Korea Professional Golfers' Association (KPGA) Tour and the DP World Tour, announced on September 15 that Matsuyama will participate in the Genesis Championship, which will be held for four days starting October 23 at Woojeong Hills Country Club in Cheonan, South Chungcheong Province.

Matsuyama became the first Asian player to win the Masters, a major tournament, in 2021, and he holds the record for the most wins on the PGA Tour by an Asian player, with 11 victories. He is also ranked 16th in the world, the highest among Asian players.

This year, he set the record for the lowest score relative to par (35-under-par) at the PGA Tour season opener, The Sentry Tournament of Champions, and claimed victory. At this year's Genesis Championship, he is considered a strong contender for the title alongside Korean players such as Im Sungjae, An Byeonghun, and Kim Siwoo, who also compete on the PGA Tour.

This will be Matsuyama's third appearance in a tournament held in Korea, following his participation in the PGA Tour's The CJ Cup in Jeju in 2018 and 2019. However, it will be his first time competing in a tournament hosted by the KPGA Tour. He stated, "I enjoy testing my skills on courses around the world. I am very pleased to participate in the Genesis Championship."
