Gwangju Mayor Kang Gi-jung participated in the "Relay Support Challenge" on September 15 to wish for the successful hosting of the Namdo International Gourmet Industry Expo.
This relay challenge was launched to raise nationwide interest in the expo and encourage participation. Mayor Kang joined the support relay after being nominated by Kim Young-rok, Governor of South Jeolla Province, who was the first participant. Mayor Kang then nominated Ahn Yoosung, Master Chef of Korea, as the next participant.
The Namdo International Gourmet Industry Expo will be held from October 1 to 26 at the Mokpo Culture and Arts Center. The event aims to globalize Namdo cuisine, foster the gourmet industry, and expand culinary exchanges.
Mayor Kang stated, "This expo is a valuable opportunity to widely promote the flavors and food culture of Namdo both domestically and internationally. I hope the momentum of gourmet culture will naturally continue with the Gwangju Kimchi Festival, which will follow the expo."
Meanwhile, the city will host the Gwangju Kimchi Festival from October 31 to November 2 at the city hall area. Ahead of the festival, the city will launch the "Kimchi K-Gourmet Belt" package, a stay-type tourism product that combines culture, tourism, and gourmet experiences. In celebration of the "2025 Visit Gwangju Year," Gwangju plans to actively promote its gourmet culture and attractions to domestic and international visitors.
