8-Under Surge in BMW PGA Championship Final Round
Leaps 26 Spots to Surpass Previous Best Tied-8th Finish
Ryder Cup Vice-Captain Noren Claims Playoff Victory for 12th Career Win
Siwoo Kim finished in the top 5 during his European tour.
On September 14 (local time), at Wentworth Golf Club (par 72) in Surrey, near London, England, Kim shot an 8-under 64 in the fourth round of the DP World Tour BMW PGA Championship (total prize money: 9 million dollars), climbing to a tie for 5th place (15-under 273), his best result of the year. He recorded one eagle, seven birdies, and one bogey, demonstrating his strength by moving up an impressive 26 spots from the previous day.
This season, Kim has played in 28 regular events on the U.S. PGA Tour, finishing in the top 10 twice. His best results were tied for 8th at the RBC Heritage in April and the PGA Championship in May. He is scheduled to compete at the PGA Tour Zozo Championship in Japan and the DP World Tour Genesis Championship in Korea this October.
The tournament victory went to Alex Noren (Sweden), vice captain of the European Ryder Cup team. Noren carded a 4-under 68 to tie Adrien Saddier (France) at 19-under 269, then secured the win with a birdie on the first playoff hole at the 18th (par 5). This marks his second win of the season, following the British Masters last month, and the 12th win of his career. It is also his second BMW PGA Championship title, the flagship event of the DP World Tour, after his first in 2017.

This year’s event featured top Ryder Cup Europe team members, including Rory McIlroy (Northern Ireland), Jon Rahm (Spain), Justin Rose, Tommy Fleetwood, Tyrrell Hatton (all England), Robert MacIntyre (Scotland), and Ludvig Aberg (Sweden), but all fell short to 43-year-old Noren. Noren commented, "Our Ryder Cup players have played better than me all season. I only played well at the end of the season."
McIlroy shot a 7-under round to finish tied for 20th (12-under 276). He said, "I’m happy to be heading into the Ryder Cup in good form." The European Ryder Cup team will travel to the United States on September 15 to inspect the Black Course at Bethpage in New York, where the Ryder Cup will be held. The Ryder Cup, a golf competition between Europe and the United States, will begin on September 26.
