Mungyeong Field Trip Tour
Exploring Educational Connections Through Historical Experiences
Educators in North Gyeongsang Province in charge of experiential learning are reflecting on the patriotic spirit of independence activist Park Yeol.
Gyeongbuk educators are reflecting on the spirit of independence at the Park Yeol Memorial Hall. After the memorial ceremony, they are taking a group commemorative photo.
The city of Mungyeong announced that on September 12, eight elementary, middle, and high school educators from the province who participated in a faculty field trip program at Mungyeong Eco World visited the Park Yeol Memorial Hall.
This program was organized to help educators discover tourism and educational infrastructure that can be linked with educational institutions by experiencing sites firsthand.
Following the guidance of the memorial hall staff, the educators held a memorial ceremony, toured the exhibition hall, and paid their respects at the grave of Kaneko Fumiko, who joined Park Yeol in the anti-Japanese movement.
Choi Jinhee, grade head at Sangju Jungang Elementary School, said, "I only knew about Park Yeol in fragments, but experiencing the spirit of independence so vividly at the memorial hall was very meaningful. I want to convey this sense of presence to my students as well."
Suh Won, chairman of the Park Yeol Memorial Project Association, said, "I would like to thank the city of Mungyeong for arranging the visit of North Gyeongsang educators. In the future, we will provide explanations tailored to students' perspectives when they visit."
The city of Mungyeong plans to actively attract student group tours from outside the region, aiming to boost the local economy and enhance the effectiveness of history education at the same time.
The power of education through hands-on experience lasts longer than knowledge from textbooks. The steps of the educators who visited the Park Yeol Memorial Hall will not end as a simple field trip, but will continue as a living lesson that passes on the spirit of patriotism to students.
