Lee Nak-yon Meets Moon Jae-in and Wife with Bright Smiles... Democratic Supporters Call It "The Gathering Day of the Subaks"

Lee Nak-yon: "Visited Pyeongsan to Extend Chuseok Greetings"
Recent Criticism of President Lee Jaemyung... Backlash from Ruling Party Supporters

After Lee Nak-yon, Standing Advisor of the New Future Democratic Party, released a photo of his meeting with former President Moon Jae-in and his wife, supporters of the Democratic Party of Korea reacted by calling it "the gathering day of the Subaks." "Subak" is a slang term referring to those who outwardly support the Democratic Party but are believed to secretly side with the People Power Party.

Lee Nak-yon Meets Moon Jae-in and Wife with Bright Smiles... Democratic Supporters Call It "The Gathering Day of the Subaks" Former President Moon Jae-in and his wife are having tea with Lee Nak-yon, Standing Advisor of the New Future Democratic Party, and his wife. Photo captured from Lee Nak-yon's Facebook.

On September 13, Lee wrote on Facebook, "I visited President Moon Jae-in and his wife in Pyeongsan with my wife to extend Chuseok greetings," and released a photo of himself and his wife sharing tea and smiling brightly with the former president and his wife.

He added, "We talked about how we've been doing, past events, and even Makgeolli," and noted, "The couple is in very good health and have been visiting many meaningful places."

In the comments, presumed Democratic Party supporters continued to criticize. Their reactions included, "The gathering day of the Subaks," and "Didn't Lee Nak-yon already join the People Power Party?" The criticism extended beyond Lee to former President Moon as well.

Lee Nak-yon declared his support for Kim Moon-soo, the then-People Power Party candidate, in the last presidential election, and recently has strongly criticized President Lee Jaemyung. This is seen as the reason why some Democratic Party supporters have been reacting negatively toward him.

On September 4, Lee said, "Personal risks have become national risks," and added, "All five of the president's trials have been suspended. They are rushing to take control of the judiciary. Can this really be unrelated to the president's judicial risks?" directly targeting President Lee.
