Available in Five Languages... First Asian Language Added
A Korean audio guide has been added to the official application (app) for the Colosseum, a landmark historical site in Rome, Italy.
According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on September 12, the official Colosseum app has been offering a Korean language service since this month. Korean is the fifth language available, following Italian, English, Spanish, and Ukrainian, and it is the first Asian language to be included. The service works by automatically playing relevant explanations when visitors approach artifacts. The app can be downloaded from the Google Play Store using a Korean account and from the Apple App Store.
Ministry of Foreign Affairs: "We Expect Significant Improvement in Convenience for Korean Visitors"
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated, "As the Colosseum's audio guide is shifting from a previously paid device rental service to an app-based service, we actively consulted with the Colosseum authorities to add Korean to the official audio guide app." The ministry added, "We expect that convenience for Korean visitors to the Colosseum will be greatly enhanced," and explained, "It is anticipated that this will help tourists gain a more comprehensive understanding of the history, structure, and features of Rome and the Colosseum." The ministry also said, "We will continue to work to expand the availability of Korean audio guides at major overseas tourist attractions and heritage sites frequently visited by Korean tourists, in order to enhance the national image."
The Colosseum is a representative symbol of Roman power and culture. Built about 2,000 years ago after demolishing Emperor Nero's grand Golden Palace, it is an amphitheater that attracts more than 12 million tourists annually, making it one of Rome's most popular tourist destinations. The Colosseum is also well known as the gladiator arena featured in the 2000 film "Gladiator," starring Russell Crowe.
